Laser Hair Removal Q & A

Is Laser Hair Removal Painful?

In most cases, laser hair removal is very tolerable. The area where the treatment was performed may be mildly sensitive for the first few days after treatment but otherwise, side effects should be minimal. A slight redness may appear as well. Laser hair removal treatments are non-invasive and there is virtually no risk of infection. The treatment outcome will largely depend on your skin color, your hair color, and the coarseness of your hair. The darker, and thicker the hair, the lighter the skin, the better the result.

Is Laser Hair Removal Permanent?

Different hair follicles may be at different stages of growth, laser hair removal will only target the hair follicles in the active stage, transitional stage, not the ones in the dormant stage. Each hair follicle is independent and goes through each cycle at a different time. That is why it will require a few treatments to target most if not all of the follicles. After laser hair removal, your hair will take much longer to grow back, sometimes not at all. If they grow back, the hair will often be finer and softer.

Does Laser Hair Removal Have Side Effects?

Laser hair removal may have no side effects at all for some patients. Others may experience redness, tingling, and tenderness in the treatment area for the first few hours after the procedure. Mild inflammation may also be present. While the procedure is non-invasive, the laser energy penetrates the skin and is absorbed most by the hair follicles, but the surrounding skin can be affected by its energy, so mild irritation, redness, and skin swelling can occur; for people with dark skin, temporary darkening of the skin can also happen. It usually goes away with time.
